Drug Discovery Today

About Drug Discovery Today

Scope of journal: Drug Discovery Today is one of the most cited review journals in the field of drug discovery. Since its launch in 1996, it continues to publish reviews of key scientific and strategic issues as well as features, such as opinionated Editorials, interviews with international experts and business trends. Drug Discovery Today covers not only the rapid scientific developments in drug discovery associated technologies but also the management, commercial and regulatory issues that increasingly play a part in how R&D is planned, structured and executed. Drug Discovery Today is published monthly in print and updated daily on-line on ScienceDirect. Our current ISI impact factor is 7.7.

In 2004, the Drug Discovery Today journal series expanded with the launch of four online-only review journals: Drug Discovery Today: Disease Mechanisms, Drug Discovery Today: Disease Models, Drug Discovery Today: Therapeutic Strategies and Drug Discovery Today: Technologies. More information on these journals can be found by clicking on the button “Online Only Titles”

Article Types:
Each issue contains a short front section and review articles. The majority of the journal content can be found in the review section.

  • Keynote reviews and Foundation reviews: These are comprehensive review articles which deal with a particular theme in great depth and are intended to provide a broad authoritative coverage of various fields.
  • Short reviews: These are short review articles, which deal with focused topics and are categorised as:
Gene-to-screen, which deals with the earliest part of drug discovery and all aspects involved in target identification, validation and assay development.
Informatics, which deals with all aspects of computational biology and chemistry related to drug discovery.
Post screen, which covers all of the science from hit identification to candidate selection and occasionally clinical trial design and patent issues.

The following article types are featured in the front section:

  • Editorial: Opinionated articles intended to stimulate debate around a topic of interest to those involved in drug discovery.
  • Interview: An interview with a leading figure in drug discovery or a related discipline.
  • Biotech focus: This article type highlights the biotechnology capabilities of particular geographic locations.
  • Business trends: Experts from PharmaProjects review trends in the approaches to treat disease classes.

There is a short section called Monitor, which highlights recent developments in medicinal chemistry and finally a Diary section which points readers to the most appropriate future conferences in drug discovery.
