The View From Here Ulrike Knies-Bamforth Welcome.
This inaugural issue of eChoice focuses on Cell Based Screening - it's a
collection of leading articles, abstracts and editorials we believe are
of relevance to you on this topic. We hope you enjoy them and look forward
to future issues Traditionally, drugs have been tested against cellular
compounds to assess potency and selectivity. This approach has proven fruitful,
particularly for targets such as isolated receptors or enzymes. However,
such an approach ignores the effect of other cellular components and signal
transduction mechanisms. In order to address these shortcomings, researchers
have begun to concentrate on whole cell assays. Such assays have the potential
advantage of being able to estimate potency and intrinsic efficacy in a
single format, in more physiologically relevant conditions. Enjoy! ![]() Ulrike Knies-Bamforth, PhD Editor Drug Discovery Group |
