SMi’s 9th Annual Pharmaceutical Microbiology Conference

20 January 2020 - 21 January 2020

Pharmaceutical Microbiology as an industry is projected to see significant advancements in the next five years. This forecast is largely attributed to rapid microbiology testing, which has accounted for $3.5 billion last year, while projected to reach nearly double at $6 billion by 2025, and an estimated CAGR of 8.3% leading up to 2025. At the very core of pharmaceutical microbiology is the accurate and reliable detection of microorganisms that would otherwise contaminate the pharmaceutical products manufactured. This demand for more rapid methods for detection and identification will be accompanied by equally important areas such as: contamination control strategies and environmental monitoring, process automation, and discussing updates to meet regulatory requirements. Join us at SMi’s 9th Annual Pharmaceutical Microbiology Conference to explore novel and developing technologies that tackle the most pressing challenges and push innovation in world of pharmaceutical microbiology. #SMiPharmaMicroUK

Disruptive Technologies in Pharma

20 January 2020 - 21 January 2020

McKinsey estimates that big data and machine learning could generate up to $100bn in pharma and medicine annually. There has never been a more pressing need for pharma to transition to digital as existing technologies are being disrupted by Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Virtual Reality, Internet of Things and Blockchain, while newer categories such as Prescription Digital Therapeutics begin to offer truly disruptive benefits. As new technologies are being incorporated into pharma it is crucial, we reflect on trends in cutting-edge innovation and explore new tech-enabled opportunities to cut costs and save time. Partnerships are at the heart of digital transformation. Innovative approaches to partnerships are leading the way towards more effective data collection, faster R&D, seamless clinical trials and above all, more patient-centric medicine.

Festival of Genomics and Biodata

29 January 2020 - 30 January 2020

The Festival is not like other genomics events, and neither is it meant to be. The early idea was “Woodstock for Genomics” … to bring people together, inspire them and leave them buzzing with energy and ideas – but also entertained. So that they leave with an increased motivation and the capability to better use genomics and related technologies. Ultimately, we want to make sure that patients benefit.

The antibody revolution by Sir Gregory Winter: The 2020 Jephcott Lecture

05 February 2020

Molecular biologist and Nobel Prize winner Sir Gregory Winter will give this year’s Jephcott Lecture at the RSM. Exploring the theme ‘The antibody revolution’ Sir Gregory will describe how in recent years antibodies have emerged as a new class of pharmaceutical drugs. Many of the best-selling and most expensive pharmaceutical drugs are now antibodies, particularly for treatment of auto-immune inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer. He will go onto discuss how continuing technology development is opening up new prospects for treatment of disease by antibodies and by small antibody mimics.

SMi’s Recombinant Chromogenic Assay as Alternate Methods for the Bacterial Endotoxins Test (BET) Webinar

29 April 2020

Recently, there has been a lot of interest associated with the potential use of synthetic (non-animal based) reagents for bacterial endotoxin testing. This webinar will provide an in-depth overview of the global perspective on the use of such reagents, including their regulatory status. This free to join webinar is sponsored by Associate of Cape Cod, the one hour webinar will focus on executing a recombinant kinetic chromogenic assay, testing samples and detailed data interpretation with the primary focus on comparability of the data with conventional amoebocyte lysate- based assays. BENEFITS FOR JOINING THE WEBINAR: This interactive webinar will provide the following benefits: - An overview of global status of recombinant reagents for BET - A session on kinetic chromogenic testing - Data interpretation - Troubleshooting kinetic chromogenic assays - Equivalency of the recombinant reagents to LAL reagents For full details and to register your free place, please visit: https://www.smi-online.co.uk/pharmaceuticals/webinar/recombinant-chromogenic-assays

WEBINAR - 4PM BST/10AM CDT Pulsed x-ray technology & smart optics for a total inspection of pre-fillable syringe cannulas and needle shields

07 October 2020

Webinar overview: The pulsed X-ray detection module from HEUFT identifies numerous safety and integrity defects of pre-fillable syringes after the caps have been applied with unrivaled low radiation. The HEUFT Syringer detects non-conformities that would normally be invisible to a camera system such as needle shields (both SNS & RNS) pierced by the hypodermic needle, deformed cannulas or incorrectly assembled, defective or leaking luer-lock screw adapters and tamper evident closures of disposable syringes. The compact detection unit can be enhanced with innovative smart optics for detecting needle hooks which complement the unique pulsed X-ray technology for a careful and precise pre-fillable syringe inspection. An intelligent color sensor camera, developed by HEUFT, examines the tiny needle tips from above before the protective covers have been added. The special light dispersion of the adaptive LED lighting used for this purpose ensures that even the smallest faults become visible. The HEUFT Syringer is extremely compact and very easy to integrate into packaging machines for such pre-fillable injection instruments. During this Webinar, Information will be shared about the Heuft Syringer such as design features, functionality, implementation, and benefits of using the HEUFT Syringer to assure only quality pre-filled syringes reach the market.
